North Gulfport

North Gulfport Middle School serves approximately 1,100 students. There are 76 dedicated faculty members on campus to motivate our students into becoming productive members of society.  We offer our students a state of the art learning environment with Internet access in all classrooms so all students can become part of the global society. Most classrooms have four computers for students to use during the school day. Students have access to a fully automated library media center as well. A variety of educational programs such as enrichment courses and online curricula provide students with a wealth of opportunity to excel and achieve. Each teacher can better meet students' needs as well with data warehousing resources developed by district personnel. These resources allow teachers to profile the past performance of a student and better meet the specific needs of the individual student.

Virtual Learning Option

What is the “Virtual Learning Option”?

Virtual Learning is instruction exclusively through distance learning options. To participate in virtual/distance learning, sufficient bandwidth and devices (computer, laptop, Chromebook, tablet, etc.) are required.  Students who choose online distance learning will be required to maintain that option for the entire semester and will not be allowed to participate in extracurricular activities, including athletic programs.

What will I need for virtual learning?

A device for each school aged child that is enrolled in the Virtual Learning Option. Devices may include one of the followings: desktop computer, laptop, Chromebook, iPad, etc. with internet access. You will also need to check with your internet provider to ensure that you have enough bandwidth for multiple devices to be online 6-7 hours during instructional days. Students will be online for 330 minutes per day.

Will my child be required to take assessments?

Yes, your child will take class, district, and state assessments. District and state assessments must be taken at the school.  Parents will be responsible for providing transportation of virtual learners to and from school for district and state assessments.

What are some of the learning programs that my child will use?

Schoology is the Learning Management System that will be used to communicate with your child regarding their assignments and grades.  Other computer-based programs used include: Edgenuity, Khan Academy, iReady, Mastery Connect, and other online programs.

What will my child’s day look like?

Students will be required to be logged in and participating in class assignments on Schoology following their class schedule.  At NGMS, our instructional school day begins at 8:25 a.m. and ends at 3:35 p.m. Students are expected to login for Virtual Learning by the beginning of their instructional school day and follow their assigned daily schedule.  Attendance will be kept and logged each period.  The Harrison County School District attendance policy will apply to students participating in Virtual Learning.

When does Virtual Learning begin?

Students who choose to participate in Virtual Learning will start school on Thursday, August 6, 2020.  Student schedules will be released soon.  Schoology information will be provided no later than Wednesday, August 5, 2020.
